Dana Holgorsen and the West Virginia offense like to set the tempo in games with an ultra-quick style that gets the football to the team's playmakers.

Charlie Strong and his Louisville defense like to set the tempo in games by disrupting the offensive flow and thwarting big plays.

Today, the two teams meet in a Big East Conference contest at noon at Mountaineer Field with their positions in the standings on the line. Both are 2-1 in conference play and in a three-way tie with Pitt for second place. The Mountaineers are 6-2 overall; Louisville is 4-4.

"It's about continuing to mature as a team and play well together cheap jerseys and pick each other up and having more energy and excitement than the other team," Holgorsen said. "When things get bad, you have to have the ability to step up and do something about it."

West Virginia rebounded from a tough first half to defeat Rutgers, 41-31, last week. That game followed a rout of the Mountaineers by Syracuse.

Progress was made against Rutgers, but the team that many had considered the favorite to win the Big East has a lot to prove on offense, defense and special teams.

Louisville, meanwhile, is coming off consecutive wins against Syracuse and Rutgers.

"They've done something in the last two weeks that we haven't done.wholesale jerseys They beat Syracuse and Rutgers, which are two pretty good teams," Holgorsen said. "They'll come in here ready to go. They're big. They're physical. They're talented."

Louisville's defense ranks first in the Big East in total defense, giving up just 295.6 yards a game. It is ranked third in rushing (97.4) and passing (198.2) defense.

West Virginia is first among Big East teams with an average of 482.1 yards of offense per game.

No team has scored more than 25 points against Louisville, and it ranks No. 4 in Division I-A with 8.25 tackles for loss per game.

"We are a pressure defense," Strong said. "We understand that. Our cheap jerseys players have to understand that. It's all about disrupting the rhythm of an offense. If you can do that on defense you then will be able to set the tempo. We like to set the tempo with our defense by stopping the run and eliminating the big plays."

That means West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith will need to identify coverages before the snap and adjust appropriately.

"They do a great job of mixing up their coverages," Smith said. "They're a very fast team. As you can see we have to focus in on every play in order to get a 'W.' "

Offensively the Cardinals have one of the brightest young quarterbacks in college football -- freshman Teddy Bridgewater.

He has passed for 1,029 yards and seven touchdowns so far this cheap nfl jerseys year but his most effective trait seems to be an ability to escape pressure. He doesn't seem to get rattled.

"You'll see," West Virginia defensive coordinator Jeff Casteel said. "He's a talented guy. You can tell he handles himself really well. Doesn't panic with people around him. Doesn't panic in the pocket. [He] has the ability to escape the rush, look downfield. If he wants to run it and make a play running it, he can do it. But he looks to throw the football."

West Virginia's defense has been inconsistent at best this season. It is the Big East's worst-ranked run defense (133 yards per game) and next to last scoring defense (26.13 points per game).

That needs to improve, said Casteel.

"You've got to be aggressive. Knock people back. Knock people down," he said. "You get knocked around and don't take advantage of opportunities you're going to play like we did in the first half [against Rutgers]. To the kids' credit, they did really a good job of coming back. It was cold. You're 10 points down. The kids could've folded the tent. They fought back. That's hopefully something they can build on."
